बिहार डी.एल.एड. (ENGLISH) COMPREHENSION

Comprehension का अर्थ है- ‘समझ’। यह जाँचने के लिए होता है कि उम्मीदवार को अंग्रेजी भाषा की सामान्य समझ है या नहीं। प्रश्नों को हल करने के लिए-
  1. Passage को पढ़ने से पहले एक बार पूछे गए प्रश्नों को देख लें। इनमें प्राय: उत्तर तुरंत मिल जाता है। Passage को पढ़ते समय पूरी एकाग्रता रखें।
  2. जब आप एक प्रश्न का उत्तर ढूँढ रहे हैं, तो दूसरे तथ्य भी आपके सामने आ जाते हैं। प्रश्न तो पहले देख ही चुके होते हैं, अतः ध्यान दीजिए कि जो दूसरा तथ्य आपके सामने आया है, यह किसी दूसरे प्रश्न का उत्तर है या नहीं। प्रायः दूसरे या तीसरे प्रश्न का उत्तर आपको पहले ही बार reading में मिल जायेगा। अगर दुविधा हो, तो Passage को पुनः पढ़ना चाहिए।
  3. कभी-कभी Passage के तथ्यों के अनुसार किसी प्रश्न के एक से अधिक उत्तर संभव लगते हैं और दुविधा उत्पन्न होती है। कभी-कभी कोई स्पष्ट उत्तर नजर नहीं आता है। ऐसी स्थिति में मूल तथ्य का चुनाव उत्तर निर्धारण के लिए करना चाहिए, अर्थात् अपने उत्तर को मूल तथ्य पर ही आधारित करना चाहिए, थोड़ा तर्क करने से तुरंत ही यह समझ में आ जाता है।
  4. अपने प्रश्नों के उत्तर Passage में व्यक्त विचारों के आधार पर ही दें। तथ्य उचित है या अनुचित, इसपर विचार नहीं करना चाहिए। यदि Passage में व्यक्त विचार या सूचनाएँ आपके अनुसार गलत भी हैं, तो आप अपना उत्तर उन्हीं पर आधारित रखें।
अभ्यास और नमूने के तौर पर यहाँ कुछ Passage प्रस्तुत किए जा रहे हैं। इन्हें हल करने की कोशिश करें। अंत में दिए गए उत्तर से मिलायें और अपनी योग्यता का मूल्यांकन करें तथा तद्नुसार और अधिक अभ्यास करें जब तक आप संतुष्ट न हों।

PASSAGE – 1

Men who are always grumbling about their poverty complaining of their difficulties, whinning over their troubles and thinking that their lot in this world is mean and poor will never get any happiness out of life or achieve any success. However mean our life may be, if we face it bravely and honestly and try to make the best of it, we shall find that after all it is not so bad as we thought, and we may have our time of happiness and the joys of success. There is nothing common or unclean, until we make it so by the wrong attitude we adopt towards it.

I always pity the sons and daughters of rich men, who are attended by servants and have governesses at a later age, and the same time 1 am glad to think that they do not know what they have missed.

It is the height of a selfishness for men, who fully appreciate in their own case the great advantages of good education, to deny these advan- tages to women. It is argued that women have their domestic duties to perform and that, if they were educated, they would bury themselves in their books and have little time for attending to the management of their households.

Our world nas a heritage of culture and beauty, but unfortunately we have been handing on this heritage only to the less active and impor- tant members of each generation. There is no essential lesson why this should be the case. To prevent it is an educational problem, and not a very difficult one.
