व्याख्या (Explanation)
1. यहाँ ‘boy’ पर बल डाला गया है- ‘वही लड़का ‘। अतः ‘a’ की जगह ‘the’ का प्रयोग होगा।
2. my, his, her, their इत्यादि के पहले article का प्रयोग नहीं होता है, क्योंकि Possessive Adjective के पहले किसी article का प्रयोग नहीं होगा।
3. ‘Most of’ के बाद ‘the’ का प्रयोग होगा ।
4. ‘few students’ का अर्थ है- ‘नाममात्र संख्या में लड़के’। इससे नकारात्मक अर्थ निकलता है। लेकिन वाक्य में कुछ लड़कों के सहयोग की बात कही गई है। ‘कुछ’ का प्रयोग संख्या के लिए किया जाता है तो a few का प्रयोग किया जाता है, क्योंकि a few का अर्थ है- कुछ संख्या में / थोड़े से (संख्या) । इसी प्रकार, ‘थोड़ी-सी मात्रा के लिए’ ‘a little’ का प्रयोग किया जाता ह। सिर्फ ‘little’ से ‘नाममात्र की मात्रा’ (नकारात्मक) का बोध होता है।
5. जब किसी निर्दिष्ट व्यक्ति या वस्तु का बोध कराना होता है, तो उसके पहले ‘the’ का प्रयोग करते हैं। यहाँ पद द्वारा इंगित किया गया है, अत: ‘the principle’ लिखा जाएगा। इसी प्रकार The prime minister, The president etc.
7. Prison/hospital/school/temple आदि के पहले ‘the’ का प्रयोग नहीं किया जायेगा यदि ये ‘institutions’ उसी अर्थ में प्रयुक्त किए जा रहे हों जिसके लिए ये बने हैं; जैसे ‘prison’ कैदियों को सजा देने के लिए। अतः इस संदर्भ में यदि ‘prison’ आया है, तो उसके पहले ‘the’ का प्रयोग नहीं होगा। पर .. यदि ‘prison’ में कोई अपने relative से मिलने जा रहा है, तो ‘prison’ के पहले ‘the’ का प्रयोग होगा।
8. Material Noun के पहले Article का प्रयोग नहीं होता है पर यदि उसे particularise कर दिया जाए, तो उसके पहले ‘the’ का प्रयोग होगा । इसलिए ‘water’ के पहले ‘the ‘ आयेगा ।
12. सही Phrase है ‘from beginning to end’.
13. वाक्य में Plural Verb ‘are’ का प्रयोग हुआ है जिससे पता चलता है कि ‘principal’ और ‘secretary ‘ दो अलग-अलग व्यक्ति हैं, इसलिए ‘secre- tary’ के पहले भी ‘the’ का प्रयोग होगा ।
15. कोई वस्तु माप-तौल की जिस इकाई द्वारा बेची जाती है (जैसे कपड़ा मीटर में, दूध लीटर में, केले/अंडे दर्जन में बेचे जाते हैं) उस इकाई के पहले ‘the’ का प्रयोग होता है।
17. ‘truth’ के पहले ‘the’ का प्रयोग होगा।
18. ‘such’ के बाद ‘a/an’ का प्रयोग होता है। यहाँ पर ‘an’ आयेगा ।
19. किसी पदवी/ उपाधि (title) के पहले ‘the’ का प्रयोग होता हैं। अशोक को ‘महान’ की उपाधि मिली थी। अत: ‘Ashoka, the great’ होगा।
20. Superlative Degree के पहले ‘the’ का प्रयोग होता है, ‘a’ का नहीं।
